About the RoleThis position involves instructing special education students, planning and adapting educational programs to enable them to benefit from their learning experiences.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Key Responsibilities- Instructs individuals and groups daily, focusing on special education skill areas.
- Develops curriculum, lessons, and teaching methods as needed to ensure effective learning.
- Evaluates student progress based on submitted papers, test scores, and observations.
- Monitors student progress both within and outside the special education room as required.
- Maintains regular contact with parents as needed to keep them informed about their child's progress.
- Evaluates student progress and determines goals, objectives, and directions daily as needed.
- Prepares report cards, educational records, IEP forms, and other necessary documents.
- Attends meetings with students, staff, parents, and community support members to assess student needs and progress.
- Collaborates with general education teachers to develop strategies for inclusionary settings.
- Diagnoses and assesses student strengths and needs.
- Translates lesson plans into developmentally-appropriate learning experiences daily.
- Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities daily.
- Identifies pupil needs and makes referrals or assists in developing individual education plans daily as needed.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Education from a four-year accredited college or university.
- A valid Iowa teaching license with an endorsement in a specific special education area.
- A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
