As a Public Safety Dispatcher, you will be responsible for receiving and processing emergency calls, dispatching units, and providing critical support to law enforcement personnel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive and process emergency calls, including 911 calls and other critical incidents
  • Dispatch units to emergency scenes, including police, fire, and medical units
  • Provide critical support to law enforcement personnel, including providing information and resources to assist with emergency responses
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of emergency calls and responses
  • Collaborate with other agencies and departments to ensure effective emergency response and coordination
  • Participate in training and professional development to stay current with best practices and technologies
Requirements:
  • Two years of experience working for a public safety agency, performing law enforcement-related services and support duties
  • Completion of a three-week Public Safety Dispatcher basic course
  • Valid California class "C" driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related functions
  • Ability to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work overtime and consecutive shifts
  • Ability to work independently and as a partner or team member with a variety of individuals
  • Ability to deal with people who are hostile, irrational, emotionally distraught, or mentally ill
  • Ability to deal with volatile or life-threatening situations
  • Ability to make appropriate split-second decisions in emergent, highly stressful situations
Working Conditions:
  • The County of Los Angeles operates 24-hours a day, seven days a week
  • The department has locations throughout the greater Los Angeles County
  • Appointees must be willing to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Appointees must be willing to work overtime and consecutive shifts
  • Appointees must be willing to work in any location within the County of Los Angeles
