  • Overview
    • As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Radiologic Technologist operates under the guidance of a radiologist to conduct radiographic and diagnostic imaging procedures. This role requires proficiency in administering roentgen rays and operating advanced radiologic equipment to produce high-quality clinical diagnostic images. Responsibilities also include preparing the examination room, managing equipment and supplies, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Qualifications
    • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of an accredited radiologic technology program is essential. Candidates should ideally be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and possess an active status. A valid license from the relevant state authority is required, along with current CPR certification.

      PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE: The technologist must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, the principles of physics and electricity, and the techniques necessary for producing clear diagnostic images. Proficiency in film/image development and processing, as well as knowledge of x-ray therapy methods and associated risks, is crucial. Familiarity with record-keeping systems and variations in patient positioning is also necessary.
    • SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
      • Effective verbal communication skills are essential for understanding and conveying instructions in medical terminology, as well as for interacting with patients and healthcare staff.
      • Strong spatial awareness is required to visualize the internal structures of the body in relation to the imaging equipment.
      • Attention to detail is critical for interpreting technical charts and executing specific imaging procedures accurately.
      • Manual dexterity is necessary for operating machinery and adjusting patient support devices.
      • A keen interest in scientific and technical processes is beneficial for mastering radiologic principles and techniques.
      • Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations, including those experiencing physical or emotional distress, is essential.
      • Experience in mentoring student radiographers and assessing their performance is a valuable asset.
