We are seeking a skilled Seasonal Welder I to join our team at Tarrant Regional Water District. As a Seasonal Welder I, you will be responsible for performing welding techniques on various projects, assisting more senior welders, and maintaining equipment and work areas.
Key Responsibilities- Perform welding techniques on various projects, including flat and vertical positions.
- Operate safety equipment and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly.
- Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
- Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.
- Operate an oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutter, or carbon arc gouger.
- Read engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
- Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
- Remove rough spots from workpieces using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers.
- Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
- Position and secure workpieces using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
- Clean or degrease parts using wire brushes, portable grinders, or chemical baths.
- Cut, contour, and bevel metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions as specified by blueprints, layouts, work orders, and templates using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knives.
- Check grooves, angles, or gap allowances using micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments.
- Operate metal shaping, straightening, and bending machines, such as brakes, iron worker, cutting torches, hand tools, band saws, and shears.
- Set up and use ladders and scaffolding as necessary to complete work.
- Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
- Mix and apply protective coatings to products.
- Perform data entry on work orders and for time-keeping.
- Interact and coordinate with other TRWD personnel.
- Perform maintenance and inspections of floodgates, dam, and spillway structures.
- Perform general maintenance of TRWD structures and grounds, including pipeline and floodway.
- After-hours Emergency Response.
- Maintain familiarity with strategic District levels of service.
- Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts.
- Perform other duties as required.
- One (1) year of experience using a cutting torch, grinding, and basic welding.
- Painting experience.
- Knowledge of basic welding safety and Hot Work permits.
- None.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas driver's license.
- Valid Texas CDL Class A or B without restriction E.
