About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Pediatric Nurse Clinician to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a key member of our Patient Care Services Division, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our pediatric patients and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Implement and support the philosophy, mission, values, standards, policies, and procedures of Children's Hospital and the Patient Care Services Division.
  • Perform care coordination core functions, including screening and identification of patients, establishment of therapeutic relationships, assessment of patient/family strengths and needs, development of family-centered plans of care, procurement and coordination of services, and monitoring and evaluation of progress.
  • Facilitate the patient/family/guardian's ability to assume responsibility for managing their own healthcare when appropriate, by promoting return of the patient/family to the highest level of wellness possible, identifying appropriate services by appropriate resources at the appropriate times, assisting in the acquisition or verification of financial/payer/insurance information when appropriate, and managing communication from the patient/family in the area of their expertise.
  • Assess child/family needs for care coordination, identify appropriate resources to facilitate continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes, and facilitate and coordinate quality patient care in a timely and cost-effective manner while promoting inter-disciplinary collaboration between all members of the healthcare team.
  • Act as a resource to members of the healthcare team in providing patient, family, and staff with information regarding diagnosis, treatments, side effects, and current therapeutic trends in the specialty area.
  • Coordinate and mobilize healthcare and community resources to meet the needs of patients and their families through referral, consultation, education, and/or care conferences.
  • Participate in clinical guidelines and outcome indicators for a given population, analyze patient and aggregate variances, and recommend changes to improve outcomes, aware of evidence-based standards and applicable national standards.
  • Collaborate with members of the healthcare team in identifying learning needs, planning for, and providing instruction in the care of patients and their families across the continuum, coordinate health promotion, prevention services, and education.
  • Provide consultation for clinical practice and program development within areas of expertise, serve as a resource and liaison between Nationwide Children's Hospital and the community regarding healthcare information in the area of specialization.
  • Participate in product identification, evaluation, and clinical testing in the area of clinical specialization, participate in the evaluation of peers for recognition and development, provide and recommend input for policy and procedure development for the Hospital and Patient Care Services Division in the area of expertise.
  • Analyze clinical trends and data to identify patterns for continuous quality improvement studies, research development, and/or evidence-based practice, collaborate with program leaders to establish and/or maintain program goals and program budget as appropriate, provide care in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the medical record of assessments, patient plans, interventions, and patient response to intervention, and education provided to patients/families, facilitate appropriate documentation for reimbursement.
  • Serve as a patient/family advocate in meeting patient or family needs, actively pursue education and knowledge related to the nursing profession and their area of expertise, maintain awareness of research affecting patient populations in their specialty area, evaluate and implement evidence-based practice as appropriate.
  • Identify need for plans and/or provide continuing education programs in the specialty area and develop/coordinate appropriate educational resources, participate in orientation and continuing education of practitioners, staff, and students as appropriate, participate in ongoing education related to information technology requirements for the department needed to perform job functions.
  • Facilitate and coordinate ongoing educational needs of patients/families, mentor clinical staff to foster their personal and professional growth, support and advance nursing practice through one or more of the following: participate as a conference speaker/presenter, present to community groups, participate in professional organizations and activities, participate on committees, task forces, and advisory boards (department, hospital, community), participate on appropriate quality teams, participate in scholarly activities, publish in journals, newsletters.
Qualifications
  • EDUCATION: BSN
  • LICENSURE: Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio. Valid drivers license, good driving record, and proof of insurance.
  • SKILLS: Clinical skill and knowledge in the nursing care of children, including normal growth and development, and/or clinical expertise in specialized areas required.
