Role Overview:
As a key member of our diverse team of engineers and specialists, you will play a crucial role in the development and support of the New Glenn rocket's Fluid Fabrication Processes. New Glenn is a heavy-lift launch vehicle designed for regular missions to Earth orbit and beyond, featuring a reusable first stage capable of 25 missions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive manufacturing work instructions and documentation for various fabrication and production assemblies, including tube bending, orbital tube welding, manual welding, and advanced metal forming.
- Oversee quality management, build sequence, and hardware scheduling throughout the manufacturing process.
- Conduct engineering drawing reviews and provide final approvals for manufacturing.
- Define and support repair and rework activities.
- Perform root cause analyses for non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
- Design effective material handling and packaging solutions to safeguard hardware during the build and testing phases.
- Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the build and test processes.
- Prioritize hardware procurement and fabrication, effectively communicating these priorities to the team.
- Maintain a strong customer focus while demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Availability to support at least one of the designated shifts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 2 years of hands-on manufacturing and engineering experience.
- Experience in hardware manufacturing related to structures, fluid systems, or mechanical systems, including assembly, integration, and testing processes.
- Solid understanding of engineering principles for mechanical design and manufacturing, including GD&T.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams across different locations.
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency in CAD, scheduling, issue tracking, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to build trust and maintain positive, professional relationships while contributing to an inclusive culture.
- Experience in developing processes compliant with industry quality standards.
Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with tube bending and orbital tube welding techniques.
- Experience with GTAW welding and other advanced welding methods.
- Background in large project controls and scheduling.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.
