We are seeking a highly qualified Educational Assistant to join our team at Deming Public Schools. The successful candidate will provide instructional and general clerical assistance to teachers with special education students in the classroom, computer lab, and on-campus grounds.
Key Responsibilities- Accompany students and adapt instructional materials to special student needs.
- Assist the special education teacher in the preparation of materials and activities for classroom instruction.
- Assist small groups and individual students with classroom activities and assignments.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining a clean, attractive, and safe learning environment.
- Types, files, and duplicates materials for teacher's use.
- Assist with personal care needs such as diapering, feeding children, and supervising students according to their medical management plan.
- Accompany students to a mainstream setting, translating between English and Spanish.
- Assist substitute teachers as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings and in-service training activities.
- May assist students with feeding, medication, and other activities of daily living.
- Lifts and transfers students from and into wheelchairs.
- Assists teachers with general clerical work such as filing, photocopying, word processing, etc.
- Assists students in the classroom with reading, math, and other subjects.
- Supervises children at recess, lunch, and getting on and off the bus to ensure child safety and that each child is accounted for.
- Assists students with classroom and homework assignments.
- Relieves teachers for attending professional development activities.
- Reports information about a child's development and behavior to teachers.
- Performs related duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Educational course work and prior classroom experience in special need student settings preferred.
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid training.
- Substitute teacher's license preferred.
