About the Role

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is a leading independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. As a Cytogenetics Technologist II - Certified, you will play a critical role in our mission to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cancer genomic laboratory procedures leading to the formation of accurate clinical reports using the International System for Cytogenomic Nomenclature.
  • Work under the direction of senior technicians and leadership, displaying significant independence with routine tasks.
Responsibilities
  • Perform benchwork, analysis, and reporting of genetic or genomic assays consistently with a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Perform pre-director tech checking of straightforward and complex cases and reports in areas of high competency.
  • Contribute moderately to operations beyond routine testing with supervision, assisting with quality management, methods development, revising or writing SOPs.
  • Make solid decisions regarding workflow in the absence of lead.
  • Be a resource for straightforward technical issues within the area of expertise, offering guidance to proceed.
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment or assays issues with moderate assistance.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with the validation and implementation of new or improved processes.
  • Assist members of lab management to improve operations, investigate and implement new technologies, streamline workflow strategies, organize, and evaluate QC/QM records.
  • With moderate assistance, gather and analyze data for lab use, or for potential publication.
  • Assist with orientation and training of lab staff.
  • Assist with daily planning to handle workload according to available resources.
  • Contribute to the continuing education of staff either through directly presenting material or investigating other resources.
  • Represent the lab at Fred Hutch meetings to address interdepartmental issues, especially technical issues.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS in a related scientific field.
  • Typically, at least three years' experience in a Cytogenetics/genomics lab or completion of a formal certified training program in Cytogenetics/genomics and two years' work experience.
  • Certification as CG(ASCP)CM or MB(ASCP)CM or international equivalent with ongoing documentation of CE comparable to ASCP programs.
  • Solid knowledge of Cancer Genomics of hematological disorders and related diagnostic testing.
  • Good Troubleshooting Skills.

  • Strong Communication Skills.
  • Strong Computer Skills.
  • Works independently on routine tasks.
  • Ability to apply general guidelines and knowledge to unique situations to make sound decisions.
