Job Summary

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, building, operating, and maintaining underwater test vehicles, working with a team of engineers and technicians to evaluate and design solutions to complex technical problems, and updating and modernizing existing test and evaluation systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, operate, and maintain underwater test vehicles
  • Work with a team of engineers and technicians to creatively evaluate and design solutions to complex technical problems
  • Update, modernize, and maintain existing test and evaluation systems to ensure reliable operation
  • Support field testing of vehicles; working on small boats and ocean-going vessels for vehicle development and in-water test events
  • Travel to support test events. Potential for travel is 1-4 times per year varying from 1-3 weeks per trip
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline, Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience with electronics and electrical testing and troubleshooting, digital and analog circuit design, schematic creation, PCB layout, microcontroller, FPGA, embedded computing, firmware development and test systems
  • Heavy emphasis on problem-solving skills, identifying technical issues that can be addressed for long-term success
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills demonstrated by conveying information and collaborating with others to drive decisions toward action
