Role Summary:
At Summit Health, our Healthcare Support Specialists play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of patient care within our facilities. These professionals are tasked with collecting patient medical histories, preparing individuals for examinations, assisting during medical procedures, administering medications, and providing essential patient instructions while being attuned to the needs of both patients and healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare examination areas and ensure cleanliness post-visit.
  • Gather and organize necessary information for patient appointments.
  • Maintain a steady flow of patients through the department.
  • Deliver care that respects the diverse age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of patients.
  • Manage incoming calls professionally, directing inquiries and taking messages as needed.
  • Schedule patient appointments in accordance with established protocols.
  • Ensure examination rooms are stocked with essential supplies consistently.
  • Reconcile patient encounters daily, adhering to policy standards.
  • Communicate any issues or concerns to the Supervisor or Manager in a timely manner.
  • Accurately measure and document vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, height, and weight in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Review and update patient medication lists and document allergies in the EHR.
  • Facilitate the transition of care to other facilities as necessary.
  • Provide timely referrals and consult orders within the Patient Management System (PMS) and EHR.
  • Utilize task management features in the EHR effectively.

General Duties:

  • Assist physicians, Physician Assistants, or Nurse Practitioners with administrative tasks, patient flow, and clinical procedures.
  • Exhibit flexibility in adapting to various work schedules.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred; completion of an accredited CMA, RMA, or EMT program is highly encouraged.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant, CMA, RMA, or EMT is preferred. If lacking prior experience, in-house training will be provided as deemed necessary.
  • Maintain certification and/or licensure as a CMA, RMA, or Oregon State EMT-B or EMT-P.
  • Hold a current BLS certification.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Exhibit teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Manage interactions with challenging personalities effectively.
  • Communicate proficiently in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Organize and execute multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Possess basic computer skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and office procedures is preferred.
  • Experience with patient care equipment is advantageous.
