Role Summary:
The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the healthcare team by assisting in the examination and treatment of patients. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately measure and document vital signs and patient concerns in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Prepare examination rooms to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for patients.
- Administer necessary injections and perform phlebotomy when required.
- Facilitate patient check-in and check-out processes.
- Schedule follow-up appointments for patients.
- Communicate effectively with the Case Management team to coordinate care.
- Manage biohazardous waste in compliance with safety regulations.
- Order and maintain clinic supplies to ensure operational efficiency.
- Assist in the procurement of clinic vaccines as directed.
- Input data into EMR/EHR systems and maintain accurate immunization records.
- Engage in Continuous Quality Management initiatives to enhance service delivery.
- Safeguard patient information during transport, ensuring confidentiality.
Supervisory Role:
This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.
Access to Information:
The Medical Assistant will have access to all clinical charts and medical information pertaining to clinic patients, as well as access to shared networks and databases necessary for data entry.
Required Competencies:
- Job Knowledge: Demonstrates proficiency in required skills and knowledge, with a commitment to ongoing learning and minimal supervision.
- Technology Proficiency: Capable of adapting to new technologies and troubleshooting issues to enhance productivity.
- Team Collaboration: Works effectively within a team, valuing diverse perspectives and contributing to a positive team environment.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) along with a Phlebotomy license.
Language Proficiency:
Ability to read and interpret medical documentation to ensure effective communication with healthcare providers.
Certificates and Licenses:
Must possess a current, active Medical Assistant certification.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, and perform tasks involving manual dexterity. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be necessary.
