Job Summary

The City of Billings is seeking a highly skilled Water Reclamation Facility Technician III to join our team. As a key member of our wastewater treatment team, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining our wastewater treatment, pumping, and storage systems, as well as related equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and control the wastewater treatment process, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and adjust processes and systems using HMI software and SCADA systems, and diagnose and correct process problems or upsets.
  • Perform manual operations during emergencies or automation system failures, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of treatment facilities.
  • Conduct control testing and operator-level quality control analyses to monitor, control, and adjust treatment processes.
  • Perform operations-level calibrations on monitoring and test equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Prepare operational logs and reports, providing critical information for process optimization and improvement.
  • Calculate and perform dosing and mixing of chemicals based on operational requirements and protocols, ensuring safe and effective treatment.
  • Work with hazardous treatment processes or materials safely, following standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure operations are consistent and uninterrupted, minimizing downtime and optimizing process efficiency.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on pumps and hydraulic systems, ensuring optimal performance and extending equipment lifespan.
  • Repair and maintain piping systems using advanced plumbing and pipefitting skills, ensuring leak-free and efficient operation.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain pneumatic systems, mechanical drives, and power transmission equipment, ensuring reliable and efficient operation.
  • Perform skilled welding, metalworking, fabricating, and carpentry skills, as required.
  • Understand and employ the automated maintenance management scheduling and tracking system, ensuring timely and effective maintenance.
  • Understand and employ safety protocols and requirements, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy equipment, as required.
  • Observe potential problems and correct them or report them to the proper personnel, ensuring prompt and effective resolution.
  • Knowledgeable in emergency response protocols and procedures, and perform them in response to emergencies.
  • Knowledgeable in security protocols and procedures, and actively participate in keeping wastewater system supplies, facilities, and infrastructure secure.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a Class 1C Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate issued by the State of Montana or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
  • City of Billings Maintenance Certification Program must be completed within four (4) years of employment.
  • Must be able to wear an air-purifying respirator for 80% of the assigned shift.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, and a Federal and State criminal history background check.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of formal training in scientific, technical, mechanical, or related fields, or related work experience.
Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This schedule may vary based on operational needs.

Salary

$ per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 7 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring is dependent upon the applicant's training and experience.
