Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, commissioning, and scaling of manufacturing systems, particularly laser welding technologies, ensuring they are validated with statistically sound data sets and workflows.
  • Collaborate as the equipment authority to guarantee that production lines operate safely and efficiently, yielding high-quality components.
  • Take ownership as the subject matter expert to enhance equipment-related processes, including detailed troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Facilitate manufacturing scaling by assessing baseline performance and enhancing the efficiency of laser welding systems, ensuring production lines achieve operational efficiency goals.
  • Diagnose and rectify processes using PLC, HMI, or tool management software, implementing necessary changes and enhancements.
  • Create training materials, maintenance schedules, and relevant documentation for effective equipment lifecycle management.
  • Champion safety and ergonomic enhancements to production machinery, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Identify critical spare parts for equipment and ensure adequate inventory to prevent prolonged downtime.
  • Guide and mentor third-party machine/automation suppliers and/or Tesla's internal machine assembly team; engage in supplier/internal equipment Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Develop and oversee Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and risk assessments to prioritize equipment improvement initiatives and establish effective repair strategies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field, with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a high-volume manufacturing setting, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in equipment utilizing laser welding, materials, and vision systems. Strong hands-on experience in pilot and high-volume manufacturing, including practical knowledge in selecting related hardware and software.
  • Proven experience in resolving complex automation and software system challenges with limited documentation, building process expertise, and initiating improvement projects.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to manufacturing process development.
  • Structured thinking and problem-solving skills, demonstrated through various root cause analyses using a data-driven approach; familiarity with statistical software (JMP) is a plus.
  • Experience in 3D CAD design for production equipment, including layout creation/validation, tooling drawings, and pneumatic and electrical schematics. Knowledge of PLC programming is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed; familiarity with Battery Cell technology is a plus.
