We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced AI Security Engineer to join our team at MITRE. As a key member of our Trustworthy & Secure AI Department, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing AI/ML solutions that prioritize security and trust.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams to develop and implement AI/ML solutions, including capabilities that leverage Large Language Models (LLMs).

  • AI Use Case Analysis: Analyze AI use cases and recommend secure and trustworthy solutions to our sponsors.

  • Tool Development: Prototype AI and/or LLM-based tools to meet operational needs.

  • Technology Evaluation: Evaluate technology solutions in the context of mission data and workflow needs, and provide actionable recommendations.

  • Communication: Convey complex ideas to non-technical audiences through briefings and/or white papers.

  • Project Leadership: Lead or significantly contribute in projects or small teams to solve complex AI security problems for our sponsors.

Requirements:

  • Education: Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related disciplines; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 2 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Experience: Demonstrated recent experience with large language models.

  • Skills: Demonstrated advanced skills with Python and the standard ML stack (Tensorflow/Torch, NumPy, Pandas, etc.).

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate challenging technical concepts to both lay and expert audiences.

  • Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.

  • Work Arrangement: This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work arrangement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree: Advanced degree in computer science, engineering, or related disciplines.

  • Deployment Experience: Track-record of successful deployment of AI/ML systems or components that have been used by customers or stakeholders outside of a lab/experimental setting.

  • Security Clearance: Active IC or DOD TS/SCI security clearance.

  • Impactful Work Experience: 5+ years of impactful work experience in AI-related fields.

This requisition requires the hired candidate to have or obtain, within one year from the date of hire, the following clearance(s): Secret.
