Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Artificial Intelligence Engineer to join our team at MITRE's Center for Government Effectiveness and Modernization. In this role, you will work with government agencies to apply AI and automation to improve customer experience, detect tax non-compliance, and develop data and analytics strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Apply AI concepts to solve tax administration problems, selecting and developing appropriate AI-based methods and techniques for the problem at hand. Develop actionable insights based on analysis across multiple structured and unstructured data sources. Stay knowledgeable of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to artificial intelligence. Perform across a broad range of assignments, working independently with minimal instructions, guidance, and direction.

Requirements:

Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. Academic background in mathematics, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related technical field. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically. Experience in designing and implementing data-intensive AI solutions. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to link technical results to the business domain. Demonstrated proficiency with programming languages, such as Python, Java, or similar. Proficiency with machine learning and/or deep learning frameworks. Experience with natural language processing (NLP) and/or Large Language Models (LLMs). Must be able to obtain & maintain a US government security clearance (IRS - Suitability). This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Experience with data engineering and data querying languages such as SQL. Experience with AI model monitoring, test, and evaluation (e.g., drift detection, bias). Demonstrated knowledge of the tax administration ecosystem, e.g., compliance processes, taxpayer service, IRS technology and infrastructure. Familiarity with data architecture and data management concepts and strategies, such as the data lifecycle, data stewardship and governance. Experience working with or leading multidisciplinary teams. This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):
