Role Purpose:
The Clinical Assistant will support healthcare providers by ensuring efficient patient flow, delivering a positive customer experience, and providing care to clinic patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and respond to urgent or emergency patient needs, initiating appropriate emergency protocols as necessary.
- Maintain current knowledge of various payer regulations and operate within those guidelines.
- Facilitate communication among interdisciplinary team members, utilizing their expertise in patient assessment and data analysis.
- Evaluate the learning needs of patients and their families, providing accurate and comprehensive information.
- Adhere to clinic protocols for managing electronic medical records, including test results and documentation.
- Assess patient and family understanding of treatment plans and instructions.
- Assist with various procedures, examinations, and the operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned, ensuring aseptic techniques are followed.
- Document all patient interactions clearly and accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Report results and relevant information to patients and healthcare team members.
- Operate within the scope of licensure or certification.
- Perform basic nursing tasks such as taking vital signs, rooming patients, assisting with procedures, administering immunizations, and medication injections under the supervision of a provider.
- Maintain the professional appearance of patient examination and procedure rooms.
- Coordinate provider schedules across all areas.
- Obtain prior authorizations for necessary procedures and medications to secure payer approval.
- Provide patient education as required (e.g., inhaler use, diagnoses, pre-operative instructions).
- Timely report results and pertinent information to patients and healthcare team members.
Qualifications:
Must possess a current or compact state license as a licensed practical nurse, certified medical assistant, or registered nurse as defined by the State of Iowa.
Experience in an outpatient hospital or clinic setting is preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers must be obtained within three months of hire.
Completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served is required within three months of hire.
