The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of lithium-based rechargeable cells and a commitment to challenging traditional concepts in materials, packaging, and analytics to advance industry standards and enhance battery performance.

The candidate should have practical knowledge of battery cell design and manufacturing processes to effectively manage the journey from concept development through to production and product integration.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a proven history of enabling large, multi-disciplinary teams to deliver intricate systems efficiently and with high quality, while effectively bridging gaps between various engineering teams and managing supplier qualifications to meet Apple’s battery specifications.

Responsibilities: The Battery Technology Engineering Program Manager leads a multi-disciplinary team of battery, chemical, systems, and manufacturing engineers, leveraging a robust technical background to identify, evaluate, and communicate project risks and challenges.

They ensure effective communication and provide multiple levels of status updates across a broad spectrum of contributors, from individual team members to executive management.

In addition, they manage daily program activities to achieve overarching program goals.

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, monitor, track, and report progress against objectives, and implement solutions to address any identified gaps.
  • Identify and prioritize project tasks and risks, facilitating engineering discussions and decisions on critical system parameters.
  • Oversee daily operations, including build management, to fulfill overall project objectives.
  • Engage multi-functional collaborators for project definition and decision-making.
  • Communicate project status and overarching goals to the project team and executive management.

Minimum Qualifications: Industry experience (preferably in Battery or Consumer Electronics) in transitioning technologies from concept to mass production.

Technical project management experience in material development, mechanical design, simulation, or manufacturing process development. A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, along with 3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with lithium-ion or lithium polymer battery cells is advantageous. Familiarity with lithium-based battery technologies. Knowledge of current innovative production processes applicable to lithium rechargeable cells. Experience collaborating with suppliers to develop and qualify battery solutions. Proficient in establishing project plans, anticipating potential obstacles, and proactively addressing risks or impacts.

Experience with modeling and simulation work. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-functional environment; engaged and eager to learn. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills, with the capacity to filter and distill relevant information for the appropriate audience.

Ability to navigate rapid development cycles; remains adaptable and composed in the face of uncertainty.

Highly skilled in managing both short-term and long-term activities.

Compensation & Benefits: At Apple, base pay is one component of our total compensation package and is determined within a specified range. This provides opportunities for advancement as you grow and develop within your role.

The base pay range for this position is between $136,300 and $248,700, with your base pay depending on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.

Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
