If you are passionate about enhancing medical services, consider the opportunity for a Biological Specimen Processor at Labcorp. We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to become part of our Specimen Accessioning team.
Role Overview: The Biological Specimen Processor will engage in specimen accessioning, sample categorization, and data entry within a dynamic, high-volume setting, adhering to established protocols.
Shift: Monday through Friday from 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM, with a mandatory rotation on Saturdays. Additional hours may be required based on operational demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and introduce biological specimens to the laboratory to ensure accurate processing.
- Open specimens and transfer them into secondary containers for analysis and testing.
- Confirm that patient demographic information aligns with the submitted test requisition forms.
- Input patient data into the computer system for tracking purposes.
- Achieve key production metrics and quality standards to guarantee timely and precise results.
- Unpack and distribute specimens to their designated staging areas.
- Package and dispatch specimens to appropriate testing facilities as needed.
- Properly prepare and store surplus specimen samples.
- Address and document any issues with problem specimens.
- Manage and dispose of medical and chemical waste appropriately.
- Adhere to relevant environmental health and safety regulations.
- Operate automated instruments under supervision when necessary.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- No prior experience is required.
- Previous experience in a medical or production environment is preferred.
- Proficient in computer usage and typing skills.
- Must pass a standardized color vision assessment.
- Comfortable handling human biological specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
- Able to lift up to 30 lbs, work in protective gear, and sit/stand for extended periods.
- Strong hand-eye coordination to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- High attention to detail with problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Willingness to work overtime as required.
