Richmond, Virginia, United States VCU Health - MCV Physicians Full time

Position Title: Vascular Surgeon

Institution: VCU Health - MCV Physicians

Unit Mission:

The VCU Division of Vascular Surgery is dedicated to delivering the most sophisticated, patient-centered, and economical vascular and endovascular solutions in the mid-Atlantic region. Our goal is to cultivate a premier training atmosphere for aspiring vascular surgery professionals. Our ongoing clinical research focuses on advanced surgical methodologies, particularly in the management of intricate thoracoabdominal aneurysms utilizing fenestrated endografts, branched thoracic endografts, and physician-modified endografts. We are also pioneering research on a novel alert system for acute limb ischemia and a simplified technique for addressing axillosubclavian venous thrombosis through delayed first rib resection and scalenectomy. Our division provides a comprehensive array of advanced treatment options for lower extremity arterial occlusive disease, employing ultrasound-guided plaque disruption and atherectomy excision. Recognized for our expertise in challenging vascular surgical cases, we aim to enhance our regional presence as the preferred provider for all vascular surgery needs.

Key Responsibilities:

The Department of Surgery is seeking a qualified candidate for a junior or mid-level, non-tenure track faculty role within the Division of Vascular Surgery. The selected individual will engage in clinical duties across all vascular surgery domains and contribute to research initiatives focusing on complex aortic aneurysm treatment, innovative approaches to occlusive disease, and vascular surgery outcomes evaluation.

Clinical Duties:

The faculty member will bolster the division's extensive clinical outreach to various healthcare facilities. Responsibilities may include collaborative efforts with VCU and affiliated medical centers.

Educational Commitment:

Supporting the division's longstanding dedication to training vascular surgery fellows, integrated vascular surgery residents, general surgery residents, and interdisciplinary fellows from cardiology and interventional radiology, as well as VCU medical students, will be a key aspect of this role.

Research Engagement:

Active participation in clinical research is expected, with opportunities for securing intramural and extramural funding. Collaboration with basic science faculty within the School of Medicine will be encouraged.

Service Contributions:

The faculty member will be expected to serve on departmental, Medical College, and/or University committees as needed, and engage in professional activities within their field, such as peer review and conference organization.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Board certification or eligibility in vascular surgery
  • Commitment to clinical and/or basic science research
  • Demonstrated experience or dedication to fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification or eligibility for Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI)
  • Proven track record of securing external funding or submitting proposals for funding
