Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As an LPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with various physical and/or behavioral problems.
  • Conduct routine evaluations of patients, obtaining current symptoms and complaints, observing patient condition, behavior, and response to treatments and/or medications.
  • Document appropriate information in the patient record and report significant deviations to the RN and/or provider.
  • Provide effective education to patients and/or family members in relation to common disease processes, medication, and/or prescribed treatment regimes.
  • Recognize the need for and institute cardiopulmonary resuscitation measures when indicated in accordance with established medical center policy and procedure.
  • Independently perform coordinating duties related to the operation of the clinic, such as ordering and maintaining supplies and medications and obtaining patient data.
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to breakage/malfunction or loss of equipment, safety hazards, and supply deficiencies, promptly reporting to appropriate personnel for corrective action.
  • Perform other assignments designated by the RN or clinic providers that are essential to patient care and appropriate to the incumbent's level of training.
Requirements
  • Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States.
  • English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed.
  • Education: Candidates must be a graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
  • Licensure: Candidates must possess a full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia.
Working Conditions

The work involves long periods of moving about the work unit. The work requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, lifting, and repositioning and transferring patients. Incumbent may be exposed to patients who are combative, secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders, and patients who require restraints.

The incumbent must be a mature, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, demonstrating cheerfulness, compassion, courtesy, and concern. Must be quick and dependable in taking emergency action in using initiative to prevent accidents.
