Trip Planner Vehicle Controls Engineer

As a key member of the Tesla team, you will play a critical role in advancing the capabilities of our in-house routing engine, Trip Planner. This system is a cornerstone of our navigation system, generating customized trip plans for our vehicles by optimally navigating them through the Supercharger Network, while balancing congestion and providing an industry-leading EV road-trip experience.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze large-scale data and statistics from the Tesla fleet to inform Trip-Planning algorithms and features
  • Design, analyze, and prototype new algorithms and features to improve Trip-Planner accuracy and customer experience
  • Collaborate with Navigation Software Engineers to implement and deploy these algorithms at scale
  • Collaborate with Validation teams to design test plans and tools to ensure quality of Trip Planning algorithms deployed to our customers
  • Communicate technical results and tradeoffs to decision makers
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive project execution
Requirements
  • Strong background in mixed domain lumped parameter modeling/control of dynamic systems
  • Demonstrated ability to design, analyze, and implement optimization schemes for real-world applications
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally, work hands-on, and execute on open-ended projects in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or another technical field, or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • Experience with route optimization algorithms, preferred
  • Proficiency in Python, C/C++, Scala, SQL, and collaborative code development, preferred

Expected compensation: $120,000 - $348,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
