Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Paraprofessional to support our educational team in providing a high-quality learning environment for students, including those with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing lesson plans and activities, ensuring a safe and supportive atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Support students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts, promoting academic growth and development.
  • Assist with classroom management and behavioral support as directed by the teacher, maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, including lunch, recess, and transitions between classes, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Help with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization, contributing to a productive and efficient learning environment.
  • Provide personal care assistance to students with disabilities, which may include feeding, toileting, and mobility support, promoting their independence and dignity.
  • Monitor and report student progress and behavior to the classroom teacher, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, promoting social skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents as needed, ensuring a collaborative and supportive team approach.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures, including maintaining student confidentiality, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate's degree, 60 semester hours of college coursework, or a Paraprofessional License through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is preferred.
  • Paraprofessional License: Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Illinois Paraprofessional License, which can be obtained with an associate's degree, 60 semester hours of college coursework, or by passing the ETS Parapro Assessment.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children, especially in an educational setting, is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to supporting students' educational and personal development.
  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check as required by the Illinois State Board of Education and the school district.
  • Health Requirements: Must meet any health requirements, including a current tuberculosis (TB) test, as required by the school district.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with students with special needs.
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and adaptive equipment.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
Working Conditions
  • The position requires working in a classroom environment with exposure to moderate noise levels.
  • May require lifting and physical assistance for students with disabilities.
