Job Summary

AFC Scholarship Foundation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mentor to join our team. The successful candidate will provide evidence-based mentoring services to youth on probation, promoting educational, behavioral, and functional progress.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a supportive and stimulating environment to foster positive self-esteem and behaviors.
  • Administer exercises and activities to facilitate clients' social improvement through blended evidenced-based mentoring programs.
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians, social workers, and probation officers to assess clients' needs and develop effective support plans.
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of all clients.
  • Encourage and support clients in maintaining a positive attitude towards learning and self-improvement.
  • Maintain good order and discipline, safeguarding clients' health and safety.
  • Meet with CSSD, Probation Officers, and Court appearances as scheduled or required.
  • Provide regular reports to CSSD, Probation Officers, and AFC Administrative Staff as needed.
Requirements
  • Thorough understanding of tutor and mentor responsibilities, including initiating, preparing, executing, and closing work plans and deliverables.
  • Knowledge of AFC organization's philosophy and methodology.
  • Ability to communicate accurately and orally, with excellent problem-solving and people skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft and Macintosh equipment, with a personal laptop required.
  • Superior organizational skills, accuracy, and time management skills.
Working Conditions

This position does not require physical effort, with sitting for extended periods common. The Mentor will spend designated time providing services at a designated facility or in the community where the client resides. Group and individual mentoring may be assigned, with work hours from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. A successful DC Metropolitan Police CPR Background Check and the State where the Mentor resides are required.
