Your Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our team at Stantec. As a key member of our Water business, you will be responsible for carrying out mechanical engineering assignments under the direction of a senior engineer. Your primary focus will be on assisting in preparing proposals and cost estimates, as well as performing mechanical engineering design, calculations, and reports to support engineering projects.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical systems, including engineering drawings, calculations, and reports, to support engineering projects.
  • Perform calculations to analyze and design mechanical system components using company-standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of mechanical systems and materials, and develop mechanical specifications.
  • Contribute to the development of mechanical systems through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Prepare engineering project documents, client presentations, and client contact and communication pertaining to specific project deliverables.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Prepare mechanical engineering documents, including engineering specifications, plans, and schedules.
  • Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
  • Recognize and address technical problems, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, and participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating to support engineering projects.
  • Perform on-site work, including information gathering, attending client meetings, and construction quality assurance visits, as needed by projects and under the direction of a senior engineer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Develop construction documents, including isometrics, piping layouts, materials specifications, and other relevant documents.
  • Assist with bid review, proposal development, and manhour estimates.
  • Assist in the development of design documents, including piping line class specifications, procurement, piping and fittings, pipe supports, and other relevant documents.
  • Conduct hydraulic calculations using company-supplied software, such as AFT Fathom.

  • Develop knowledge of industry standards and best practices, including ASME, ASTM, ANSI, API, AWWA, HI, PPI, and other relevant standards.
  • Assist with mechanical construction, startup, and commissioning field support, including client, contractor, and vendor interaction.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering, working towards licensure.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
