Job Summary

We're seeking an experienced Insurance Underwriter to join our team. As an Underwriter, you'll play a critical role in soliciting, underwriting, and pricing accounts according to specific carrier guidelines. You'll work closely with our team to develop and implement risk management strategies that meet the unique needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to our service standards and ensure that all clients receive exceptional service.
  • Understand and apply carrier guidelines, including systems processes related to underwriter duties.
  • Underwrite and price accounts per specific carrier guidelines, issuing quotes and binders documenting insurance coverages.
  • Expand and build relationships with brokers and agents to drive new business and meet production goals.
  • Recognize and evaluate inherent hazards and exposure associated with individual risks.
  • Underwrite and bind new and renewal business, overseeing the work of Associate Underwriters.
  • Support Senior Underwriters' renewal book of business and review existing accounts for potential non-renewal due to claims activity or increase in unacceptable exposure.
  • Review accounts for cancellation and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three to five years related experience in the insurance industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) preferred.
  • Understanding of policy construction for both ISO property and manuscript property forms, and the ability to draft manuscript policy endorsements.
  • Experience with CAT Modeling - RMS, including layering, treaty booking, peril exclusions, etc.
  • Experience with various building construction types and occupancies, and how these judgments affect CAT modeling.
  • Experience with booking of accounts, endorsements, and additional and return premiums.
  • Experience with pricing - rate development for fire, AOP, Named Windstorm, Convective Storm, Flood.
  • Experience dealing directly with brokers to develop relationships.
  • Deep understanding of commercial property insurance and the ability to follow multiple carrier guidelines per account.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, policy and accounting systems, and vendor-specific computer programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple tasks.
  • Routine or periodic travel may be required.
  • Valid driver's license and possess an acceptable motor vehicle record at the time of hire and periodically thereafter.
  • Maintain the minimum acceptable insurance coverages and limits as defined by Brown & Brown.
