Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Athletic Trainer to join our team. The successful candidate will provide preventive, protective, and emergency first aid care for athletic teams, as well as inventory, issue, store, and maintain equipment, supplies, and uniforms for required athletic teams.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Administer emergency athletic first aid, preventive taping/fitting of protective equipment, and specialized treatment and/or rehabilitation of injured athletes in accordance with directions from the team physician.
  2. Administer tests (i.e. injury evaluation, physical strength, flexibility, and agility) to determine the nature and extent of athletic injuries and post-injury recovery.
  3. Assist the team physician, Athletic Director, coaches, and other staff members in managing care of injured athletes and ensuring prevention of injuries.
  4. Evaluate injuries and perform referrals to provide immediate and post-injury care to interscholastic athletes, recognizing potential catastrophic injuries and acting according to accepted procedures.
  5. Instruct athletes in the prevention of athletic injuries to reduce the risk and exposure to injuries and liability of staff and district.
  6. Maintain various records (i.e. injury and rehabilitation, equipment issued, inventory, budget, and equipment orders) to ensure proper documentation of the nature and extent of injuries in compliance with applicable insurance and statistical guidelines.
  7. Provide guidance and direction to other staff, volunteers, and student interns from other educational programs to oversee those assisting with sports medicine programs.
  8. Procure equipment and supplies to ensure adequate inventory of necessary equipment.
Requirements and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a high school graduate or equivalent, plus successful completion of a course in Sports Medicine from a vocational school, and one year of experience working in an athletic program in a training capacity. Certification from the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) and/or California Athletic Training Association is desirable.

Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance, tuberculosis clearance, valid California Driver's license, successful completion of Athletic Taping Course, and current First Aid and CPR Certificates are required.
