Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse

Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse - Cardiac Rehab will plan, implement, and evaluate patient educational needs in the cardiovascular inpatient population. This includes post-operative CABG, pre & post-catheterization, and other cardiac-related conditions. The successful candidate will assume basic teaching and leadership responsibilities, remaining calm and intervening in emergency situations in a professional, competent, and appropriate manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assess the cardiovascular inpatient population to provide educational plans according to AACVPR guidelines.
- Identify individual risk factors associated with cardiac and pulmonary disease and assist with risk stratification.
- Document all patient care activities according to departmental and hospital policies for medical records.
- Develop individualized educational plans based on patient goals and expectations, adjusting and reevaluating as necessary.
- Review patient history and other medical records to develop a plan of care that includes behavior modification through activity and diet intervention.
- Facilitate the CABG discharge class in collaboration with other healthcare disciplines.
- Facilitate phase I to phase II transition process for cardiac rehab, assigning patients to phase II who qualify and providing follow-up phone calls as necessary.
- Provide cardiac rehab and work on both hospital campuses, demonstrating flexibility.
- Actively participate in patient education and community-based programs by organizing classes, communicating with speakers and participants, and providing classroom instruction.
- Cross-train to the outpatient cardiac rehab program and work a flexible schedule as needed.
- Assist and support departmental activities to ensure operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget.
- Understand the principles of Performance Improvement and look for opportunities and solutions for process improvement.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
- One year of previous experience on a cardiology-related patient care unit is required.
- Critical care experience is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of cardiac disease, anatomy, and physiology, risk stratification, exercise physiology, and diet and nutrition are essential.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification is recommended when working in an outpatient setting.
- Intermediate computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
