Detroit Medical Center is looking for a Breast Imaging Specialist for a position in Detroit, Michigan.

The Breast Imaging Specialist role involves conducting diagnostic mammographic examinations using the appropriate imaging technology.

Responsibilities include:
• Confirming patient identity and reviewing medical records to ensure the appropriateness of the examination.
• Conducting patient interviews to gather and verify medical history, assessing risk factors such as medications and pregnancy.
• Clearly explaining the procedure to patients, including potential side effects, risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up care.
• Setting up imaging equipment and capturing necessary images according to established protocols.
• Reviewing images, making preliminary observations, documenting any deviations from standard procedures, and communicating findings to the radiologist.
• Recognizing and responding to medical emergencies as required, providing post-care instructions as prescribed by the physician.
• Engaging in quality improvement initiatives within the radiology department, focusing on patient care, workflow efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
• Providing educational support to residents, student technologists, and new staff members.
• Availability for on-call duties as needed by the department.
• May also perform the duties of a Radiologic Technologist when necessary.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography (M).
2. Completion of American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BLS) training is required by the end of the orientation period.

Skills Required:
  • Strong analytical and clinical skills to determine the most suitable imaging methods based on patient capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients under stress and to follow physician instructions.
  • Technical proficiency in operating specialized imaging equipment and computers.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of accreditation requirements set by the American College of Radiology and MQSA.
  • Physical stamina for frequent movement, lifting, and positioning of patients.
