Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced ESL Instructor to join our Adult Education Program, providing English language instruction to refugees and immigrants in New York, NY.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach ESL classes to adult learners, focusing on English for everyday life and job readiness skills.
  • Develop and implement interactive, learner-centered lesson plans using culturally responsive strategies.
  • Document student attendance and progress, and process referrals as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Adult Education Coordinator and team to discuss individual client progress and provide support.
  • Supervise ESL Assistant Interns and test students' English language skills using Best Plus.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree and TESOL certificate preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience teaching ESL to adults from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to be clear and concise in all communications.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and deliver on time.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Fluency in English language required; second language proficiency in relevant language highly desirable.
Working Environment

Classes will take place online via Zoom and in the IRC office.
