Job Summary:

MedStar Health is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist I to join our team at MedStar Harbor Hospital. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated competency in case procedure, preparation, and completion of all services.

The Surgical Technologist I will perform a variety of technical duties to assist with surgery, including case preparation, ensuring proper function of equipment, and assisting during operative procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Functions as surgical assistant during operative procedures, performing specified activities under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
  • Assists with case preparation, following preference card guidelines.
  • Identifies and handles specimens appropriately.
  • Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
  • May function as a technical resource person for OR staff, providing information relating to instruments and equipment.
  • Ensures that equipment is functioning properly and immediately notifies appropriate personnel of any problems.
  • Performs indirect patient care activities, such as patient transportation, as needed.
  • Provides comfort and support for preoperative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy.
  • Responds to questions from patients, families, and significant others in a prompt, courteous, positive, and knowledgeable manner.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from a school of surgical technology or completion of hospital-based training.
  • Experience as a surgical technologist or graduation from a school of surgical technology program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
