POSITION OVERVIEW
:

Under general oversight, manages the evaluation of data concerning criminal behavior and law enforcement intelligence; innovates analytical methodologies by leveraging available technology and resources.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proficient in supervising the observation, assessment, and interpretation of patterns and trends in criminal behavior across all Patrol Divisions; oversee and assess the application of statistical analysis, basic temporal and spatial analysis, and various analytical techniques; develop and supervise the upkeep of automated records, databases, and spreadsheets.

Capable of managing and aiding in the creation of comprehensive analytical reports and products; authorize investigative suggestions based on analytical findings; organize oral presentations and briefings; ensure timely distribution of crime bulletins and information regarding suspects, patterns, and trends.

Competent in directing the maintenance of automated records, databases, and spreadsheets for conducting analytical research and information management tasks.

Skilled in overseeing data access from diverse law enforcement agencies and other sources; review and assess reports, registers, and records related to criminal activities.

Proficient in selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating crime analysis professionals.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Capable of planning, directing, monitoring, and providing management oversight for the Crime Analysis Unit. Responsible for personnel management including recruitment, performance assessments, disciplinary actions, rule enforcement, safety assurance, and other duties that foster a collaborative team environment.

Skilled in managing responses to inquiries regarding crime information from the media, civic organizations, the general public, and external agencies.

Proficient in conducting or participating in formal, informal, or on-the-job training in communication skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with offense elements as outlined by relevant legal codes.
Understanding of computerized databases and proper usage protocols.

Proficient in computer applications including relevant spreadsheet, graphic, mapping, mainframe, and network software; word processing, internet navigation, and other computer programs.

Knowledge of research methodologies.
Familiarity with interviewing techniques and strategies.
Understanding of modern police record systems.
Proficient in business English, spelling, and punctuation.
Knowledge of contemporary office practices and procedures.
Familiarity with employee selection, training, and development methods and practices.
Ability to record and organize data and identify and utilize potential data sources.
Skill in determining suitable visual representations of statistical and factual data.
Proficient in developing effective data collection methods.
Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships. Skill in maintaining precise and detailed records.
Capability to interpret and comprehend criminal law, procedural codes, municipal ordinances, policies, and procedures.

Effective communication skills, both oral and written, utilizing various office equipment.

Ability to perform a range of physical tasks including, but not limited to, seeing, sorting, typing, and writing.
Ability to receive detailed information through verbal communication and make fine distinctions in sound.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
Three years of experience in crime research, crime analysis, law enforcement, or a related area.
