The Sonographer plays a crucial role in the operation of sonographic equipment, conducting diagnostic examinations, and effectively communicating results. This position entails maintaining equipment, reporting malfunctions, and ensuring quality assessments. A high level of professionalism in patient care, confidentiality, and medical ethics is essential. The Sonographer is expected to be proactive in enhancing their knowledge of the field, including emerging diseases and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct clinical assessments and cardiac sonography examinations as per provider requests.
  • Utilize cognitive skills to identify and adapt procedures based on anatomical and pathological information.
  • Employ independent judgment during exams to distinguish between normal and abnormal findings.
  • Address patient concerns promptly and make informed decisions to resolve issues.
  • Analyze sonograms and synthesize information to communicate findings to the relevant healthcare provider.
  • Prepare preliminary reports and liaise with referring providers as necessary.
  • Coordinate work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and patient care.
  • Ensure the safety and comfort of patients throughout their care.
  • Maintain ultrasound equipment and work areas, reporting any failures to leadership.
  • Participate in laboratory accreditation maintenance.
  • Foster ethical relationships with all associated facilities and staff.
  • Provide training to colleagues as requested.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with healthcare professionals.
  • Proficient in medical terminology.
  • Able to explain echocardiographic procedures to patients and address their inquiries.
  • Knowledgeable in infection control protocols.
  • Familiar with laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Competent in first aid and certified in Basic Life Support.
  • Maintain ARDMS and/or CCI certifications.
  • Efficiently perform 2D echo with color flow Doppler exams.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment regarding echo contrast usage.
  • Ensure consistent patient preparation and adherence to established protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess dual certification in Vascular and Echo.
  • Completion of accredited Ultrasound Technology Training.
  • Certification as an Ultrasound Technician with at least one year of experience, though new graduates are welcome.
  • Strong knowledge of ultrasound equipment and techniques.
  • Must be a collaborative team player with excellent communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Vascular and Echo.
  • Familiarity with MS Outlook and basic computer skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is advantageous.

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
