Description
Are you seeking a flexible part-time opportunity in the Finance sector? The City of Bellflower is on the lookout for a part-time Finance Support Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role offers the flexibility to work between 0-29 hours per week, Monday through Friday, making it an ideal fit for those balancing other commitments or pursuing educational goals.
The primary function of this position will be to serve as the City's cashier, alongside additional responsibilities such as reviewing accounts payable transactions, maintaining files, and assisting with various special projects. We are interested in candidates who possess relevant work experience and/or have completed related coursework at the college level.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct cashiering tasks, including receiving payments from the public and other City departments, entering transactions into the accounting system, reconciling received funds, and issuing receipts.
- Process water rate subsidy applications, send out approval notifications, and coordinate with Public Works.
- Provide technical accounting support by posting, balancing, adjusting, and maintaining financial records in accordance with established policies.
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and ensure accurate clearing of posted transactions.
- Verify, record, and maintain various financial transactions; prepare and manage databases and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain and reconcile ledgers, schedules, and journals, ensuring the integrity of financial records and resolving discrepancies.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports for monthly, quarterly, and year-end summaries, as well as reports for City Council meetings.
- Analyze variances and trends in accounting data, making recommendations for improvements and documenting processes for consistency.
- Ensure compliance with the Municipal Code and relevant regulations, suggesting enhancements to current processes.
- Provide general office support, including correspondence preparation, filing, and ordering supplies.
- Assist customers and vendors with inquiries regarding account information and financial procedures, ensuring clarity and resolution of issues.
- Support special projects as needed and provide backup for payroll tasks when required.
Applicants should have completed some college-level coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field, along with one year of general clerical experience that includes public interaction and preferably some financial record-keeping. A valid driver's license and insurability at standard rates for the City's automobile insurance are required.
Additional Information
This position primarily involves sedentary office work, with some mobility required to navigate the office environment. Candidates must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Part-time roles with the City of Bellflower do not include City-provided benefits beyond those mandated by law.
