LEAD MECHANICAL ENGINEER, CONSUMER ELECTRONICS
As part of our team, you will play a crucial role in advancing Starlink, the most sophisticated broadband internet system available today. Starlink represents the largest satellite network globally, providing fast and reliable internet access to millions of users. Our work encompasses the design, construction, testing, and operation of the entire system, including thousands of satellites and user-friendly consumer terminals.
Mechanical Engineers at our facilities are dedicated to creating high-volume consumer products that are shipped worldwide. We focus on designing hardware that is not only technically advanced but also user-friendly. Our diverse customer base includes educators in remote regions, researchers in extreme environments, digital nomads, emergency services, and various commercial entities. As a member of this innovative team, you will lead interdisciplinary projects that involve both the design of consumer products and the manufacturing processes that produce them, contributing to the next generation of internet accessibility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design of Starlink consumer hardware from initial concept through to public launch and high-volume production.
- Establish design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive optimizations at the system level.
- Implement key technological advancements and material innovations to enhance product performance, reduce costs, and improve user experience.
- Conduct field reliability testing and refine hardware to ensure optimal performance in challenging environments.
- Design and develop cutting-edge production lines for manufacturing, including assembly, testing, and automation processes.
- Enhance production systems to achieve high rates of yield and uptime.
- Establish a streamlined product lifecycle that balances cost, complexity, and quality, working closely with partner teams to optimize in-house production.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
- Extensive experience with CAD and FEA software tools.
- Over 8 years of experience in mechanical or electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing.
- Professional experience in the complete lifecycle design of consumer products.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Recognized leader in innovative consumer product design.
- Master's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- Experience in guiding multiple consumer products through their entire lifecycle.
- 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design and analysis.
- Hands-on project experience with complex mechanical systems, ideally in a leadership role.
- Proficient in 3D CAD software (NX preferred).
- Strong understanding of GD&T, mechanical engineering principles, structural analysis, and failure modes of intricate mechanical systems.
- Prior ownership of a complex component or assembly from design through to high-volume production.
- Expertise in various manufacturing processes and designing for high-volume manufacturability.
- Familiarity with production machinery and industrial equipment.
- Experience in automated machine design.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Adept at using data and analysis for informed decision-making.
- Ability to conduct trade studies and provide clear recommendations based on engineering fundamentals.
- Demonstrated rapid career progression with increasing responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range for this position is competitive and based on experience and qualifications. In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for long-term incentives, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, and various other benefits.
