Cyber Defense Analyst Job Description

The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies is seeking a highly skilled Cyber Defense Analyst to support our government customer located in Honolulu, HI. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security and integrity of our systems and networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with enterprise-wide cyber defense staff to validate network alerts and identify potential security threats.
  • Document and escalate incidents, including events history, status, and potential impact for further action.
  • Perform cyber defense trend analysis and reporting to identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct research, analysis, and correlation across a wide variety of all-source data sets to identify malicious activity.
  • Use cyber defense tools for continual monitoring and analysis of system activity to identify vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
  • Analyze identified malicious activity to determine weaknesses exploited, exploitation methods, effects on system and information.
  • Identify and analyze anomalies in network traffic using metadata to identify potential security threats.
  • Conduct security reviews and identify security gaps in security architecture resulting in recommendations for the inclusion into the risk mitigation strategy.
  • Provide daily summary reports of network events and activity relevant to cyber defense practices.
  • Receive and analyze network alerts from various sources within the enterprise and determine possible causes of such alerts.
  • Provide timely detection, identification, and alerting of possible attacks/intrusions, anomalous activities, and misuse activities and distinguish these incidents and events from benign activities.

Requirements:

  • A BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science.
  • Must meet at least one of the following baseline certifications in lieu of education: GFACT, GISF, Cloud, GCED, PenTest, Security, or GSEC.
  • Minimum of 20 hours annually of continued education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Intrusion Detection System (IDS)/Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) tools and applications.
  • Knowledge of cyber defense and vulnerability assessment tools, including open source tools, and their capabilities.
  • Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, Dynamic Host Configuration, Domain Name System (DNS), and directory services.
  • Able to perform packet level analysis.
  • Skilled in collecting data from a variety of cyber defense resources.
  • Knowledge of intrusion detection methodologies and techniques for detecting host and network-based intrusions via intrusion detection technologies.
  • Knowledge of cyber defense policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Able to recognize and categorize types of vulnerabilities and associated attacks.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must have an active TOP SECRET/SCI clearance OR a TOP SECRET clearance with the ability to upgrade.
