Position Summary:
At Mad Science, we create an exhilarating environment for learning. You will be compensated to engage in fun and interactive science activities. Your role will involve constructing and launching rockets, showcasing laser demonstrations, exploring the properties of matter with dry ice, and guiding children in making slime and other fascinating substances. You will play a pivotal role in motivating young minds to discover the wonders of science through our unique and hands-on programs.
As a Science Educator, you will guide students through an inquiry-based learning approach that combines instructor-led demonstrations, interactive activities, and exciting take-home projects that illustrate the impact of science in everyday life. Mad Science is recognized as the premier provider of enjoyable science programs tailored for elementary-aged children.
This position is part-time and has a seasonal aspect. Compensation is hourly, covering all responsibilities including preparation and clean-up. The starting pay ranges from $22.50 to $30 per hour, depending on experience. If you conduct five one-hour sessions weekly, your earnings could be approximately $225 to $300 per week. There are numerous opportunities for additional classes and hours for those who are available.
We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our expanding team to deliver captivating science, engineering, and technology programs during after-school and morning time slots. Certification as a teacher is not a requirement, although it is appreciated.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitating day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school science enrichment programs for children from preschool through elementary school.
- Delivering high-energy, engaging, and educational hands-on programs that typically meet for one hour each week over a span of 8-10 weeks.
- Traveling to various locations as needed.
- Fostering a love for science among young learners.
- Participating in paid training sessions, either virtually or at our office.
- Attending mandatory weekly staff meetings (paid).
- Being able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Arriving punctually for all scheduled activities.
- Adhering to strict safety and cleanliness protocols.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with groups of elementary-age children (e.g., as an after-school educator or camp counselor).
- Availability for at least three consistent weekday afternoons from 12 PM to 5 PM. While this is a part-time role, it is essential to commit to the duration of any program.
- Reliable transportation is necessary for transporting materials and conducting programs.
- A minimum of one year of college education is preferred; degrees and advanced degrees are advantageous.
- Possessing a fun, adaptable, and outgoing personality.
