Role of Asset Protection

The Asset Protection (AP) teams are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of our guests, team members, and brand, particularly during crisis situations. They safeguard profitable sales by reducing risks of loss, preventing, investigating, and resolving incidents of theft and fraud, ensuring product availability for our guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster a culture of safety and security, including crisis management and crowd control, while providing support to guests and team members.
  • Execute daily and weekly AP workload priorities to align with business objectives and achieve targets.
  • Address external theft incidents and implement preventive measures for future occurrences.
  • With guidance from leadership, develop strategic solutions for external theft and fraud, including apprehending individuals in line with company policy.
  • Collaborate with and educate store leaders on operational priorities related to loss prevention.
  • Lead a team of hourly team members, focusing on recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of talent.

Typical Daily Activities

  • Support overall store sales and enhance profitability by ensuring product availability for guests.
  • Influence and validate security and safety protocols; engage in store emergency responses and develop plans for in-store events.
  • Assist in training teams on emergency preparedness and security procedures.
  • Coach and develop team members to enhance their skills and expertise, as directed by leadership.
  • Anticipate staffing needs and collaborate with leadership to foster a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management.
  • Identify theft and loss trends within the store.
  • Recognize shortage risks in key areas and assist leadership in formulating strategies to mitigate loss and drive sales.
  • Work a schedule that accommodates guest and business needs, including early morning, overnight, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Develop and adjust schedules based on security and theft patterns.
  • Oversee the prevention, identification, and resolution of external theft incidents.
  • Support internal investigations led by AP leadership.
  • Train team members on merchandise protection and auditing processes.
  • Implement operational changes as directed by leadership.
  • Communicate AP priorities to team members and leadership.
  • Build a trusting relationship with leadership and store management.
  • Model a safety-first culture by recognizing safe practices and addressing safety hazards.
  • Execute strategies to achieve business results while prioritizing guest experience.
  • Evaluate and recommend candidates for open positions, fostering a guest-centric team.
  • Lead onboarding and training initiatives to close knowledge and skill gaps.
  • Hold team members accountable to established expectations.
  • Maintain all required training certifications.
  • Act as the first responder for in-store incidents.
  • Promote a culture of best practices through team training and development.
  • Deliver a shopping experience that meets guest needs.

  • Support leadership in cultivating a safety advocacy culture by recognizing hazards and ensuring safe work practices.
