Job Summary:

UCI Health is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Principal Admitting Worker to join our team. As a key member of our Emergency Department, you will be responsible for performing the essential functions of registration, including pre-admission, financial counseling, insurance notification, verification, and authorization. Your excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment will make you a valuable asset to our team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pre-admission and financial counseling for patients
  • Insurance notification, verification, and authorization
  • Management of unscheduled admissions in acute care or mental health admissions
  • NICU transfers and other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of Government and Commercial Insurance Plans
  • Experience with registration and/or billings computer software programs
  • Experience in a hospital or medical office setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Managed Care plans
  • Demonstrated experience with referral authorization process
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize payer and government websites to access and interpret health plan benefit packages and make determinations
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures, and forms
  • Experience with computer software programs such as Quest, Invision, and EPIC
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Ability to ensure proper billing or financial procedures for patients
