Job Summary

Under the direction of the Radiology Director, and a radiologist, performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produces high-quality radiographs on all patient age groups under the direction of a radiologist.
  • Explains procedures to patients, positions and immobilizes them for procedures, selects appropriate technical factors for specific body parts, and reviews images for quality and accuracy of positioning.
  • Assists radiologists with invasive procedures, sets up rooms properly for specific procedures, and practices principles of sterile technique.
  • Labels items on trays in accordance with Joint Commission standards, selects appropriate procedure trays/instruments needed, and obtains images as requested by radiologists to facilitate diagnosis of disease processes.
  • Maintains patient and personal safety, provides radiation protection to all patients as needed, and practices personal radiation safety measures to minimize annual occupational exposure levels.
  • Follows principles of good body mechanics when lifting, utilizes appropriate transfer techniques for patient condition, and uses two identifiers approved by the hospital to verify patient identity.
  • Administers appropriate contrast media as directed by radiologists, performs venipuncture as required for procedures, and completes all exams timely in PACS.
  • Operates film digitizer to add films to PACS, verifies that written physician orders match orders in PACS, and verifies all images are in PACS, scans any required documents, and adds additional study information in notes sections as needed.
Qualifications

Must have satisfactorily completed AMA-approved Radiologic Technologist training program; eligible for ARRT registry. CT registry preferred. BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
