The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Library's Special Collections is seeking a highly skilled Digital Archivist to join its team. As a key member of the department, you will play a crucial role in building and stewarding special collections resources, services, and operations.

Department Overview

The Special Collections department is a dynamic and collaborative environment that consists of four teams:

  • Curatorial Team: responsible for acquiring, appraising, and preserving rare and unique materials.
  • Processing/Center for Primary Research and Training (CFPRT) Team: focuses on processing and providing access to special collections materials, as well as offering research and training services.
  • Collection Management Team: oversees the management of special collections, including cataloging, digitization, and preservation.
  • Archivist, Digital, Processing, Operations, and Research Teams: work together to ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of special collections materials.
Key Responsibilities

The Digital Archivist will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing digital preservation strategies for special collections materials.
  • Collaborating with curators, archivists, and other stakeholders to ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of digital collections.
  • Designing and implementing digital collections and exhibits that showcase the richness and diversity of UCLA's special collections.
  • Providing research and reference services to faculty, students, and other researchers.
  • Staying up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in digital preservation and curation.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A master's degree in library science, archives, or a related field.
  • Experience working with digital collections and preservation technologies.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
