Role Purpose

The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in supporting the pharmacist by ensuring patients receive friendly, efficient, and timely pharmaceutical services. This position also involves assisting with inventory management as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with patients and staff face-to-face, actively seeking ways to assist individuals in accessing their medications.
  • Support the lead pharmacy technician in maintaining inventory, which includes ordering, returning, shelving, and managing stock levels.
  • Provide recall information to patients as necessary.
  • Operate the cash register, handling various forms of payment and balancing the register.
  • Answer phone calls, addressing inquiries and requests.
  • Maintain and update referral documentation.
  • Oversee clinic medication orders.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of Heartland Community Health Center in service delivery and documentation.
  • Stay informed about the 340B program, sliding fee scale, and referral prescriptions.
  • Assist the Director of Pharmacy with compliance related to the 340B program as needed.
  • Collaborate with the pharmacist in filling new and refill prescriptions.
  • Prepare prescriptions for delivery or mailing as required.
  • Assist the pharmacist with Medication Therapy Management (MTM) as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Fluency in English is required; Spanish is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is necessary.
  • Must possess a Kansas Pharmacy Technician License.
  • National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) is preferred.
  • Prior pharmacy experience is advantageous.
  • Commitment to continuing education as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong customer service orientation with a focus on patient-centered care.
  • Social and cultural sensitivity to diverse patient and employee backgrounds.
  • Understanding of appropriate patient care practices.
  • Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues and healthcare team members.
  • Organizational skills to manage and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products, pharmacy management systems, and EHR software; experience with eClinicalWorks is a plus.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Courteous and respectful interactions with patients and their families.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies and HIPAA regulations.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with prior authorizations and prescription insurance billing.
  • Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations.

  • Schedule: Full-time, non-exempt position.
