Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Associate

Alcorn State University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team in the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will conduct research to evaluate native bees as pollinators of small fruits on small farms in Mississippi. The postdoctoral research associate will work under the direction of scientists from Alcorn State University Demonstration Farm and the USDA Agricultural Research Service.

Responsibilities:
  • Determine the relative density of native bee populations in agricultural landscapes during spring and summer seasons.
  • Estimate the contribution of natural-occurring and mass-released native bees on fruit set, growth, and size of strawberries and blueberries under high tunnel cultivation.
  • Develop novel methodology to detect possible pesticide contamination of bees and their nesting substrates.
  • Discuss research results with scientists, students, farmers, and the general public.
  • Compile research data and initiate statistical analysis.
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Entomology or a related discipline.
  • Graduate/postgraduate research work experience with insects.
  • Possess basic knowledge of insect taxonomy and working experience with hymenoptera, especially with bees.
