Job Title: Certified Music Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Certified Music Therapist to join our team at Northern California Behavioral Health System. As a key member of our interdisciplinary treatment team, you will play a vital role in providing therapeutic activities for patients with emotional or substance abuse problems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct group and individual sessions for patients, utilizing mediums such as art therapy, movement therapy, physical therapy, occupational rehabilitation, exercise, games, or leisure activities.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team to develop and implement activity therapy treatment plans.
  • Demonstrate sound application of activity therapy theory and methodology.
  • Provide individual activity therapy as ordered by patient physicians.
  • Regularly communicate with community resources and partners to schedule hospital groups and supplement programming.
Administrative Assignments:
  • Evaluate patient progress and document results in patient charts and department records.
  • Contribute effectively to discharge planning.
  • Perform routine and assigned clinical and administrative tasks.
  • Provide direct support to Adjunctive Therapist Aides, reviewing and signing off on their documentation.
  • Exhibit a commitment to quality and process improvement.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a related field with a certification in music, art, physical, occupational, or recreation therapy.
  • One year of experience in a healthcare field with an emphasis on activities and/or recreational therapy.
  • Current CPR certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • Current CPI certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • Knowledge of psychiatric and addictive disease diagnoses and treatment.
  • Demonstrated group process, teaching, or training skills.
  • Experience in a psychiatric care environment is preferred.

  • Maintain confidentiality of patients at all times.
  • Sensitivity to and willingness to interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with software and/or equipment (Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively and possessing the skills to lead, influence, and motivate others.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, expanding organization.
Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the position is frequently required to:

  • Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
  • Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
  • Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
  • Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information.
  • Vision: see details of objects at close range.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.
  • Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day.
