Responsibilities of the Shift Leader

Reporting directly to the Restaurant General Manager, the Shift Leader is responsible for guiding teams of customer-focused team members to deliver the Smashburger experience beyond the restaurant. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating in a team setting, effectively communicating with team members, management, and customers while demonstrating efficiency and excellence in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ensuring a safe work environment by adhering to all safety and security protocols.
  • Leading the Off-Premise Services team in preparing and packaging food for offsite delivery, following Smashburger's preparation and recipe standards.
  • Becoming a menu expert, ensuring guest orders are prepared according to Smashburger's standards.
  • Operating large kitchen equipment such as grills and fryers, and using knives and slicing tools safely.
  • Maintaining compliance with all food safety regulations and local health department standards.
  • Transporting products from the restaurant to designated offsite locations safely and securely.
  • Keeping delivery vehicles clean and in safe operating condition.
  • Safely loading, securing, and delivering items to prevent damage or spoilage.
  • Maintaining accurate driving and delivery logs as per Smashburger policies.
  • Directing the Off-Premise Services team to the designated locations, utilizing checklists and systems to set up and dismantle food service areas.
  • Facilitating team huddles and providing ongoing communication with the Off-Premise Services team, offering direction, delegating tasks, coaching, and recognizing team achievements.
  • Completing additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Adhering to all Smashburger and Special Venue/Off Premise Catering policies and guidelines.
  • Upholding integrity and ethical standards in all actions.

Qualifications for the Shift Leader

  • 1-2 years of management experience in the restaurant industry.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Compliance with Smashburger uniform standards.
  • Ability to follow all operational guidelines and regulations set forth by Smashburger and local authorities.
  • Successful completion of the Smashburger training program is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with management, staff, and corporate teams.
  • Proven people management skills to select, assess, coach, and lead restaurant teams effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated time management, consistency, and organizational abilities.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and driven.
  • Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift boxes of food/supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in varying temperature conditions.
