Job Summary

Career Opportunity: Prototype Machinist

Creighton University seeks a skilled Prototype Machinist to maintain and operate a machine shop serving the Department of Physics and the wider research community.

The successful candidate will deliver complex R&D prototype machined parts and components by programming, setting up, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) vertical mills, lathes, and traditional conventional machines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the machine shop and its equipment
  • Manage inventory and order supplies as needed
  • Collaborate with faculty researchers on prototype design, offering expertise and creative suggestions
  • Operate standard and specialized equipment to produce prototype items
  • Supervise faculty and students using shop equipment
  • Maintain a safe environment for all operations
  • Research materials needed for projects
  • Interface with departmental or university personnel as required
  • Support faculty on materials for outreach activities
  • Teach students on the design and construction of simple class projects
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-4 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in science, engineering, or a related field
  • More than 2 years of experience in an academic setting
