Job Overview

The Outpatient Radiologic Technologist is responsible for executing professional duties related to various technical procedures that utilize prescribed ionizing radiation for the radiological assessment of patients across all age groups.

  • Evaluates patients accurately for the procedures requested before, during, and after the examinations in accordance with Imaging Services/Departmental Protocols.
  • Operates advanced equipment, including radiographic, CR (Computed Radiography), DR (Digital Radiography), and PACS (Picture Archive Communication System).
  • Positions patients to capture high-quality images. Administers IV contrast injections, urinary catheterizations, and/or other necessary skills as required.
  • Handles tasks associated with RIS (Radiology Information System) and electronic medical records.
  • Contributes to the training of students and staff as assigned.
  • May be Cross-trained to perform basic laboratory phlebotomy functions and operates laboratory waived testing equipment in compliance with CLIA regulations.
  • May also receive training to conduct EKGs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.

Experience: Experience preferred but not mandatory. Licensure, certification, and/or registration: AART registry and state license required.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry required. State license necessary for work in an outpatient setting. AHA BLS-HCP certification required.

Other: Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills are essential. All Carilion Clinic employees may be required to travel to other facilities as needed.
