The Chief Nursing Officer of the Kitty DeGree School of Nursing, possessing a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field, is accountable to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences (CHS) for the governance of the nursing program(s) and all facets related to the management of the school.

The Chief Nursing Officer holds faculty status within the School of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities:

Provides strategic leadership and vision for the School in relation to the nursing profession on national, state, and local levels.

To achieve this, the Chief Nursing Officer must maintain active membership in nationally and internationally recognized professional nursing organizations that shape and influence the nursing field.

Engagement in these organizations is essential for sustaining a contemporary curriculum and comprehending trends and shifts in various aspects of the profession.

Maintains a collaborative relationship with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing and participates in Board meetings.

Attendance at these meetings equips the Chief Nursing Officer with current insights and the ability to impact the status of nursing education and practice within the state.

Maintains membership in additional professional nursing organizations to uphold expertise in the selected area of practice.
Oversees all components of the following internal structures:
The traditional baccalaureate nursing program
The RN to BSN pathway
The LPN to BSN pathway
The Master's Programs CNL Track
FNP Track
AGPCNP Track

Development of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
The Continuing Education Program for Registered Nurses
Alumni Relations
The Advisory Council
Faculty onboarding, development, and evaluation
Ensures faculty credentialing is completed in accordance with standards.

Oversees the following external activities:

Negotiates contracts for clinical partnerships with hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, home health agencies, daycare centers, senior centers, public health departments, and other community organizations providing experiential learning components of the curriculum.

Establishes contracts with preceptors for students in their final year of the professional program when appropriate.
Manages the KDSON academic budget to ensure that individual programmatic needs are met.

Engages with the accrediting body (AACN/CCNE) for the KDSON to ensure alignment and compliance with all Standards and Essentials relating to the operations and curriculum of the School.

Interacts with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing to ensure alignment and compliance with all regulations and guidelines pertaining to the operations and curriculum of the School.

Submits reports and survey data to state and national agencies.
Participates as a member of the College of Health Sciences Administrative Council (CAC).

Represents the School of Nursing, the College of Health Sciences, and the University to the community of healthcare providers and other stakeholders at local, state, and national levels.

Collaborates with the Dean of CHS to promote fundraising initiatives for the School of Nursing.
Serves as Chairperson of the Kitty DeGree School of Nursing Administrative Council.
Acts as a substitute instructor when necessary.
And performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Minimum Qualifications:
An unencumbered RN license in Louisiana (or eligibility for Louisiana licensure).
Possesses a master's degree in nursing.

An earned doctorate with a minimum of five years of collegiate teaching experience in undergraduate or graduate nursing programs at a four-year institution.

A minimum of three years of successful senior academic nursing management experience in undergraduate or graduate nursing programs at a four-year institution and a minimum of five years of clinical practice.

Academic credentials corresponding to an Associate Professor Tenure Track appointment.
Demonstrates evidence of being a dynamic, creative, proactive, innovative, and visionary leader with strong decision-making capabilities.
Demonstrates evidence of sound academic and fiscal planning and management skills.
