Job Overview

As a Special Education Teacher with Maury County Public Schools, you will play a critical role in assessing student progress, determining the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques, and providing parents with reports of the student's progress as outlined in district procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs)

Develop and implement annual IEP plans for students, taking into account their unique needs and goals.

Provide Research-Based Instruction

Provide research-based, specialized instruction to address the instructional goals contained within each student's IEP.

Coordinate Special Education Services

Coordinate the delivery of special education and related services in each student's IEP, ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed.

Schedule IEP Team Meetings

Schedule IEP team meetings and serve as the primary contact for the parent/guardian, ensuring that all parties are informed and involved in the student's educational plan.

Manage Student Behavior

Manage student behavior and develop and implement behavior intervention plans when needed, working closely with parents and other educators to ensure that students are supported and successful.

Provide Instructional Direction

Provide instructional direction to paraprofessional support staff, ensuring that they have the guidance and support they need to provide high-quality instruction and support to students.

Provide Consultation and Support

Provide consultation and support to classroom teachers regarding classroom accommodations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, and behavior intervention plans to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

Maintain Student Records

Maintain students' Special Education records according to state and federal regulations and district procedures, ensuring that all records are accurate, complete, and confidential.

Represent the School and Community

Represent the school and community in a positive manner, promoting a culture of inclusivity, respect, and support for all students and families.

Ensure Confidentiality

Regard information on student records and in the school setting as strictly confidential, maintaining the trust and confidence of students, families, and colleagues.

Perform Other Work-Related Duties

Perform other work-related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success and effectiveness of Maury County Public Schools.
