Elementary School Educator

Job Summary:
The West Virginia Department of Education seeks a dedicated and skilled Elementary School Educator to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for leading students towards intellectual, social, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Evaluates and monitors student progress on a regular basis.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
- Responsible for state adopted job responsibilities as follows:
West Virginia Professional Teaching Standards:
The expectations for teacher performance are based upon the West Virginia Professional Teaching Standards. The seven standards by which teacher performance is measured are as follows:
Standard 1: Curriculum and Planning
The teacher demonstrates a deep and extensive knowledge of the subject matter. The teacher designs standards-driven instruction using state-approved curricula.
Standard 2: The Learner and the Learning Environment
The teacher understands and responds to the unique characteristics of learners. The teacher establishes and maintains a safe and appropriate learning environment.
Standard 3: Teaching
The teacher utilizes a variety of research-based instructional strategies. The teacher motivates and engages students in learning, problem solving and collaboration.
Standard 4: Professional Responsibilities for Self-Renewal
The teacher engages in professional development for self-renewal that guides continuous examination and improvement of professional practice.
Standard 5: Professional Responsibilities for School and Community
The teacher participates in school-wide collaborative efforts to support the success of all students.
Standard 6: Student Learning
The work of the teacher results in measurable progress of student learning and state-approved curricula.
Standard 7: Professional Conduct
The teacher demonstrates professional conduct as defined in law, policy and procedure at the state, district and school level.
