Under general supervision, the Pharmacist - Ambulatory Care Specialist interprets and evaluates physicians' prescriptions to provide prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals as needed for optimal and desired patient care according to professional standards and practices.
Key Responsibilities- Provides ambulatory-related pharmaceutical care to individual patients, promoting optimal drug therapy and safe use of medications.
- Manages the pharmacy and directs support staff in the absence of a supervisor, adhering to established departmental, state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
- Works with insurance/third-party payers to ensure payment and researches customers' ability to pay for prescriptions.
- Provides educational services, including professional development and training, to pharmacists, pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, pharmacy technicians, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Enhances customer relations and satisfaction by interacting with internal and external customers in a respectful, courteous, and tactful manner.
- Engages in practice enhancements and professional development, demonstrating a commitment to expanding knowledge and clinical skills in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmaceutical care services, managed care pharmacy, and practice management.
- Maintains medication distribution and control systems, including inventory control systems, and develops and maintains medication use systems for the storage, preparation, dispensing, distribution, and administration of medications.
- Participates in performance improvement activities, applying knowledge and suggesting improvements to established policies and procedures and operational processes.
- Manages care, quality, and costs by systematically evaluating and improving the utilization of medications in patient populations to enhance the quality, safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of the medication use process.
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient populations served, demonstrating knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to their population-specific and age-specific needs.
